Bois-Guillaume / Maison de l’Enfance
The construction of a public fittings for children, such as a house of childhood, as well as the realization of a sustainable building, are part of what is nowadays the fundamental contemporary theme of urban evolution.

With the redevelopment project of the city center, that of the Maison de l’Enfance of Bois-Guillaume is fixed in a context in full evolution. The block, which includes the town hall, schools, and various public facilities, will be reconfigured to accommodate a new central park, the new market square, a multimedia library, and several new infrastructures of collective interest.

The Maison de l’Enfance is the first project of this transformation. Its programming aims on the one hand, to fill the existing programmatic gaps, and on the other hand, to anticipate the changes in the city: in fact, the building regroups an ALSH, a communal logistics center, communal administrative offices, youth services and public activity rooms.
Having neither landmarks nor fixed road plans at the time of the competition, we quickly turned to the only form without front or back: the circle.

The principle of the building is simple: a large circular roof that houses all public and logistical functions. In the center of the ground floor, a large patio becomes an open-air bonus room. On the roof, a rectangular volume will house the administrative functions.
In addition to these challenges, there are environmental criteria: the structure is made of a post-and-floor system in low-carbon concrete from recycling centers in the river port of Rouen. The facades are made of wood frames, clad in chestnut wood.
