16 semi-collective dwellings — Montreuil (FR)
This semi-collective housing scheme is located to the east of Montreuil, in a predominantly residential neighbourhood made up of detached houses. The project proposes an intermediate step between the scale of the individual house and that of the collective building. The 16 dwellings are arranged in three built ensembles: a street-front building and two groups of courtyard houses, organised around shared outdoor spaces.
The volumes, simple and pared-back, slot into the existing fabric while asserting a contemporary architectural language. The dwellings prioritise long views, natural light and direct relationships with the gardens. The variety of typologies makes it possible to accommodate different family configurations while maintaining a coherent whole.
Materiality is a central component of the project. The façades are clad in hand-moulded bricks, with six sand-beige shades deployed across the buildings and houses. The dwellings benefit from dual aspect and a high-performance envelope: bio- and geo-sourced materials, wood-fibre insulation and restrained tones all help to reduce the carbon footprint and improve thermal comfort.
