52 dwellings — Chennevières-sur-Marne (FR)

The 52-dwelling scheme is located on an irregular trapezoidal plot within a low-density urban fabric, predominantly residential and made up of detached houses, close to the banks of the Marne. The project seeks to make the most of this situation by working carefully with views, orientations and the transitions between private and public space.

Two existing buildings, listed in the local register of protected built heritage, are refurbished and converted into housing, in order to preserve the memory of the site and limit the carbon footprint associated with demolition. More recent, lower-quality structures are demolished to make way for new volumes adapted to the collective housing programme. Taken together, the scheme forms a development that brings refurbishment and new-build into a single urban composition.
