Biopharmaceutical R&D centre — Massy (FR)
Located at the heart of the Massy Atlantis development zone, 750 metres from the Massy–Palaiseau TGV and RER station, the biopharmaceutical R&D centre is set within a transforming district where infrastructure, housing, offices and services intersect. The building is placed back from the streets to thicken the edge between city and research : this setback creates a peripheral garden that protects the privacy of the ground-floor laboratories while offering a continuous working landscape around the building.
The overall form results from a series of strategic setbacks on the east and west façades, carved back towards the core of the volume. These cut-outs accommodate large planted terraces and orchestrate generous natural light, framed views and visual filters from the public realm. Roof gardens complete this system, improving thermal and acoustic comfort and extending the workspaces outwards.
The façade alternates solid bands and wide horizontal openings, combining restraint with high daylight performance. Structured by a 1.35 m grid, it offers a high degree of reversibility for the floorplates and supports the evolving needs of R&D and office programmes. At the scale of the site, the biopharmaceutical R&D centre becomes a key element within Massy Atlantis, articulating gardens, terraces and active façades to create a research facility that is durably rooted in its context.
