Office and R&D hub — Block 5L, Massy (FR)

Located on Block 5L in Massy, the office and R&D hub sits within a transforming landscape where parkland, new streets and green corridors are reshaping the district. Its siting clarifies thresholds, organises access hierarchies and establishes a clear relationship with the public realm, making the base a point of articulation between city and site. Around a central patio and a full-height foyer, a regular grid organises the depth and flexibility of the floorplates, providing reversible workspaces flooded with natural light, capable of accommodating offices, research, showroom and support spaces over time.

The timber-and-metal exoskeleton forms an inhabited climatic buffer: it supports the terraces, filters sunlight and expresses the structural grid, while the timber–concrete frame combines inertia, sobriety and adaptability, allowing future transformations without disrupting the overall balance. The lower levels house technical and logistical functions in direct connection with site flows, while the upper floors offer a calmer atmosphere, opening onto the patio and the park.

The façades, conceived as a continuous device, combine solar protection, transparency and framed views towards the landscape. They form a unified architectural language, responsive to changes in light and to use. The environmental strategy is based on low-carbon materials, frugal systems and long-term adaptability, making the building a working tool firmly rooted in its territory.
